Rabeni first played provincial rugby for Lautoka in 1998-99 while studying at Lautoka Teachers College. He also played for Fiji U21s and U23s and played halfback for the Fiji 7s team 1998-2000.
Rabeni made his Test debut in the Epson Cup against Japan in 2000, but an ankle injury saw him miss the remainder of the tournament. He began a three-year course at Otago University in New Zealand in February 2001 and rejoined the Test side in June 2002.
He later played for Otago in NPC and won a Super 12 contract for 2003 and 2004. Rabeni signed for English club Leicester shortly after being named in the Pacific Islanders squad.
Rabeni has again returned in 2006 adding more strength and power to the Fiji backline.
