Kele Leawere (lock)
Full name: Senikavika Kelemete Leawere
Club: Hino Motors, Japan
Fiji province: Nadroga
Height: 1m93 (6'4")
Weight: 120kg
Born: 27 April 1974
Test debut: 2002 vs Scotland in Edinburgh
Test caps: 15
Test tries: 2 (10 pts)
Total games for Fiji: 25 (6 tries 30 pts)
Older brother of 7s rep Mika Leawere, Kele departed for New Zealand in 1996 and has made an excellent name for himself in NPC Division Two with East Coast, clocking up 56 appearances and playing for the NZ Divisional XV against Italy and Ireland.
He scored a try in the 2001 NPC Division Two final in the narrow 30-27 loss to Hawkes Bay. He also played for the Fiji Warriors against the ACT Brumbies in 1997.
In October 2002, Leawere flew to Fiji to attend the national trials and won selection for the tour to Britain and Ireland, making his Test debut as a replacement against Scotland. He remained in the squad and, helped by a series of injuries to other lock forwards, featured in the starting line-ups in all four Tests.
Kele is a proven line-out exponent and also has plenty of running power as he aptly demonstrated against Marlborough in August 2003 when he scored a hat trick of tries in Fijis huge win.
He scored his first test try in June 2004 when he twisted and turned his way through the Samoan defence in Suva. Kele made a timely return in 2007 to feature for the FMF flying Fijians against Samoa.
